Taxing Time for Immune Systems

Taxing Time for Immune Systems

Published: August 14, 2012 Last Updated: January 21, 2024

Tax time, school holidays and changes in the weather can all lead to stress and reduced immune system function, leaving us susceptible to catching coughs, colds, flu and whatever else is ‘going around’. There is no quick fix for stress and lowered immune system function but as the old adage goes, “prevention is better than cure”, so it is up to each of us to take responsibility and ensure our immune systems are fighting fit to take on those seasonal nasties.

How to boost your immune system naturally

Here are a few simple, natural and nutritional additions which we can all incorporate into our everyday lives:

  • Combine vitamins A, C and E and what do you get? ACE! That’s right, these super nutrients are packed full of antioxidants which help to relieve stress and fight off infection. These bug-busting wonder vitamins can be found in loads of everyday fruits and veggies. Hot tip - look out for the colourful ones!

  • Get stuck into some dark leafy greens or carrots for a vitamin A injection.

  • Citrus fruits such as oranges and grapefruits contain a good dose of vitamin C. Blueberries and broccoli are also brilliant.

  • And for vitamin E, avocados, nuts and seeds are just what you need!

Take a break - relax with a massage

Relaxation is good for your health.

It's also important to take the time to relax (yes mums, even during school holidays!) because, as we all know, stress can lower immune system function. Start by doing something simple like taking a walk in the fresh air, even if it’s just to the local shops and back instead of driving the car. Or, if you have a moment, why not treat yourself? Indulge in a massage or one of our luxurious facials or nourishing skin treatments.
